The Cos Cob premium crewneck, for the town that is where the Impressionists painted the Mianus. A 9.9 oz cotton-rich sweatshirt with a smooth face and the Cos Cob vintage retro logo on the chest in black.

This is the softer, heavier of our two Cos Cob crewnecks, the one that becomes the three-days-a-week sweatshirt from October on. Smooth face, rich print, no scratchy tag. If you want the sweatshirt that feels like a favorite on day one, this is it; order now for cold weather and holiday giving.

Medium-heavy 9.9 oz fabric, 80% cotton and 20% polyester, gives this unisex crewneck a substantial feel without the weight. The smooth cotton-rich surface takes our retro artwork in rich detail; ribbed-knit cuffs and collar, reinforced side seams, and twill neck tape hold the shape wash after wash; a tear-away label means no scratchy tag. True to size, machine washable, and ethically printed on demand — the one you'll reach for first.

Cos Cob is a waterfront village of Greenwich at the lower landing of the Mianus River, where the c.1728 Bush-Holley House stands on a hill over the harbor. The Holleys opened it as a boarding house in 1882, John Henry Twachtman began teaching summer classes there in 1890, and he and J. Alden Weir brought the Art Students League summer school in 1892.

Childe Hassam and Theodore Robinson followed, and the Cos Cob Art Colony that flourished until the 1920s was Connecticut’s first, a birthplace of American Impressionism. The saltbox became a museum in 1958 and a National Historic Landmark in 1991; Hassam’s Red Mill shipyard stood across the water. The mark on this piece is that light on the harbor.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

Why Cos Cob? In a word, the train. The Cos Cob station put the village less than an hour from New York, and the place gave Impressionism everything it wanted: tidal light on the Mianus, a working harbor, weathered clapboard houses, and the old Palmer and Duff shipyard across the water — the very subject of Hassam's painting 'The Red Mill, Cos Cob.' The artists worked outdoors, en plein air, just as the French had done at Giverny, chasing color that changed by the minute, and the Lower Landing of the Mianus handed them a ready-made composition at every tide.

The house was old long before the painters found it. It began about 1728 as the home of the mercantile Bush family, a classic New England saltbox on the harbor, and it stood through the era of the New Nation in the years after the Revolution. The village around it grew as a working Mianus-River waterfront — wharves, a mill, a shipyard, and oyster boats on the Sound — generations before anyone set up an easel on the riverbank.

Why People Visit Cos Cob

Cos Cob offers art heritage and green escapes in a small, walkable village. Visitors pair the Bush-Holley House and its Impressionist collection with river paths, harbor overlooks, and quiet historic streets. It is tranquil, residential, and close to the water, with year-round appeal in its parks, paths, and public spaces. History and everyday life sit side by side here, from the saltbox over the harbor to the trails along the Mianus.
