The Riverside Original Art Series tee, for the town that keeps Greenwich’s quiet where the Mianus meets the Sound. The classy town logo on the front and Riverside’s own artwork, bold and full-size, on the back.

Choose the Art Series tee when the logo tee is too quiet: heavyweight garment-dyed cotton with a lived-in hand and the Riverside artwork printed large across the back. It is the Riverside shirt people stop you to ask about.

Bold original art on the back, our classy city logo on the front: the Original Art Series tee is crafted from soft, heavyweight, garment-dyed premium 6.1 oz ring-spun U.S. cotton that feels broken-in from day one yet is built to last. A relaxed, straight silhouette and tubular knit body layer effortlessly, while double-needle hems and a smooth, tag-free neckline ensure long-wear comfort. It pairs with everything from worn denim to a sharp blazer.

Riverside began as Mianus Neck, a fishing and oystering village of Greenwich settled in the mid-1600s; the c.1760 Samuel Ferris farmhouse survives from that era. Developers Jeremiah Atwater and Luke Lockwood renamed it Riverside in the late 1800s to draw New Yorkers up the new rail line, and the refined railroad suburb they planned is what stands today.

The 1871 cast-iron Riverside Avenue Bridge, moved here in the 1890s, is Connecticut’s only surviving cast-iron bridge and a National Historic Landmark; St. Paul’s Episcopal dates to 1876 and the Riverside Yacht Club to 1888. Shore roads wind between the Mianus River and Long Island Sound. The mark on this piece is that quiet.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

What’s with Mianus Neck? Before it was Riverside, this corner of Greenwich was called Mianus Neck — a quiet 17th-century farming-and-oystering village on the lands lying by the Mianus River. The river, and the village, took their name from Mayn Myannos, a Munsee sachem; for generations the river was the main route in and out of eastern Greenwich. Then in 1869 two developers, the New York real-estate broker Jeremiah Atwater and the attorney Luke Vincent Lockwood, bought up the Neck, built a railroad station, and renamed the place “Riverside” — a prettier, sellable name to lure summer New Yorkers up the new line. The bet paid off. The oystermen’s neck became one of Fairfield County’s most refined railroad suburbs, and the old name survives mostly in the river that still borders it.

The water that fed the oystermen now carries sailboats. In May 1888 a retired Civil War captain named George I. Tyson built a clubhouse on his own waterfront on the eastern shore of Cos Cob Harbor, at the mouth of the Mianus, and founded the Riverside Yacht Club — the second-oldest yacht club in Connecticut and among the oldest in the United States. Its Victorian clubhouse went up the next year, and the club has been racing on Long Island Sound ever since. Sailcloth, brass, and harbor-grey: this is Riverside’s prevailing weather.

Why People Visit Riverside

Riverside rewards visitors who like the quiet, watery side of the Gold Coast: sailboats on the Mianus, shaded streets, and a handful of real landmarks close together. Add the Sound-side parks and the easy ride to the city, and the genteel calm makes its own case.
