The Pasadena fleece, for the town that is where the urban cowboy rode. An authentic Columbia MTR fleece, full-zip, with the Pasadena vintage retro logo embroidered on the chest in white thread.

This is the top of the Pasadena range: a real Columbia blank, embroidered to order, warm, light and fast-drying. It is the jacket for early mornings, the sideline and the drive home, and the Pasadena gift that gets opened and put on immediately. Made to order, so allow the embroidery time before the holidays.

Trusted outdoor quality meets personalized design: an authentic Columbia fleece jacket blank in soft, warm MTR fleece, custom embroidered to order with our vintage-retro logo on the chest. The lightweight full-zip (~7.4 oz/yd² MTR-style filament fleece) has an athletic, easy-layering fit, a stand collar, and clean lines that pair with everything, and it delivers dependable insulation for cool days while drying fast and moving comfortably. Care: machine wash cold (gentle), dry flat, no bleach, no iron on decoration, no dry clean. Embroidery is thread, not ink, so slight differences from the digital product image are normal; see the page footer Embroidery note for full details and care. John Burnett of Galveston founded Pasadena in 1893 and named it, optimistically, for the lush California town; the railroad reached it in 1894. After the 1900 Galveston hurricane Clara Barton sent strawberry plants, and the town became the strawberry capital of the Gulf Coast, then a Ship Channel boomtown after 1914.

Gilley’s opened around 1971 as the world’s largest honky-tonk, and in 1980 Urban Cowboy put its mechanical bull on every screen in America. The 1950 Washburn Tunnel runs under the Ship Channel, the Capitan Theater keeps its neon, and the Strawberry Festival keeps the old name. Pasadena, Texas, is the mark on this piece.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

And then, for one loud decade, Pasadena was the capital of something else entirely. In 1971 a Spencer Highway dance hall called Gilley's grew into the largest honky-tonk in the world — acres of floor, a rodeo arena, and a mechanical bull that became famous far beyond Texas. When a 1980 Hollywood film set its story there, the club and its bull touched off a national craze; for a few years half the country wanted to pull on boots, ride a bucking machine, and call itself an urban cowboy. Gilley's is long gone, torn down in 2006, but the legend is pure Pasadena: a refinery town that knew how to two-step, and taught everyone else how.

For all the oil and the honky-tonk nights, Pasadena never let go of the berry. The Pasadena Strawberry Festival, held each spring, draws crowds for its carnival, its livestock show and rodeo, and that record-setting shortcake; it is the town's signature weekend and the truest link back to the Clara Barton plants of 1900. Add the Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo and a calendar of community fairs, and the picture is of a city that works hard all week and celebrates loud — strawberries, Western, and Gulf-coast all at once.

Why People Visit Pasadena

Pasadena balances big-city access with Gulf-coast ease. Visitors pair the strawberry and Western heritage with bayou boardwalks, festival weekends, and a short hop to Houston, the Space Center nearby, or the beach. It is friendly, unpretentious, and family-oriented, with year-round appeal in its parks, trails, and public spaces. History and everyday culture sit side by side here in a welcoming way.
