Three Churches on the Green. Three churches in a row on a public green, built within three years of each other, each in a different style, all still standing where they were put two centuries ago.

New Haven was laid out in 1638 on a nine-square grid, with the central square left open - one of the earliest planned town centers in the country. The three churches went up between 1812 and 1815: Trinity Church in a very early American Gothic, Center Church and United Church as Federal meetinghouses with New England steeples. Center Church was built directly over the colonial burying ground, and the crypt beneath it still holds the graves, intact, under the floor.

The Green has been a militia training field, a market, a burying ground, a protest site and a park, and the churches have watched all of it. A city that has rebuilt itself repeatedly kept this one block exactly as first drawn, which is why standing there still feels like standing in 1638 with better lighting.

Printed on a three-inch faceted crystal glass round, white-backed so the engraved architecture stays sharp and the three red wreaths read against tree lights. The faceted edge catches light from every angle. Arrives boxed - your choice of white or gold gift box at checkout.

For the New Haven native, the alum, the one who crosses that green every day without looking up. Merlin Classics profits support hunger relief.

3-inch (76 mm) round crystal glass ornament · faceted gem-cut edge · white-backed print for crisp contrast · red ribbon hanger · your choice of white or gold gift box, included · free U.S. shipping.

Our New Haven logo carries the same emblem every Merlin Classics Connecticut place wears — a Long Island Sound oyster, above "New Haven, Connecticut, Est. 1636," rendered in hand-printed black and white with a worn, vintage feel. The oyster is Connecticut's shoreline mark, the through-line that ties New Haven to every other Connecticut place we make — a nod to the Sound that built these towns. What makes this one New Haven is everything around it: the Elm City, the nine-square Green, the regicides' cave on West Rock. On a tee or a cap it reads less like a souvenir and more like a piece of the Connecticut shore — Est. 1636, worn plain.

Today New Haven is the Elm City still — a harbor-and-ridge city of museums, theaters, and the most argued-over pizza in the country, anchored by four centuries of history. Its story runs from a Quinnipiac homeland through the first planned city in America, the regicides on West Rock, and a Long Island Sound port. Our New Haven designs gather that identity into wearable form — the Elm City, the nine-square Green, the oyster shore. From the nine-square Green to the regicides' cave on West Rock, wear a little of the Elm City's four centuries.
