The lightweight full-zip (~7.4 oz/yd² MTR-style filament fleece) has an athletic, easy-layering fit, a stand collar, and clean lines that pair with everything, and it delivers dependable insulation for cool days while drying fast and moving comfortably. Care: machine wash cold (gentle), dry flat, no bleach, no iron on decoration, no dry clean. Embroidery is thread, not ink, so slight differences from the digital product image are normal; see the page footer Embroidery note for full details and care. Coal mines opened here around 1889, the town was founded in 1895 and named the next year for Homer Pennock, a mining promoter who left within a year, and a coal railroad ran down the Spit by 1899. Mining gave way to fishing, and the city incorporated in 1964, the year the Good Friday earthquake reshaped the Spit.

The Homer Spit reaches four and a half miles into Kachemak Bay beneath a wall of glaciers and the Kenai Mountains, the 1897 Salty Dawg cabin stands at the harbor, and the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World doubles as one of the artsiest small towns in Alaska. The Spit at the end of the Sterling Highway is the mark on this piece.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

The town's odd name comes from a boom that went bust. In the 1890s a gold-rush promoter named Homer Pennock landed on the spit with grand plans for coal mining, built a settlement, and left his first name on the place when the venture collapsed. The coal never paid, but the fish did. Through the early twentieth century Homer grew slowly as a fishing and homesteading outpost at the end of the trail, a hardscrabble frontier town on a spectacular bay, far from anywhere and content to be. The road only reached Homer in 1950, when the Sterling Highway finally tied the town to the rest of the Kenai Peninsula and the world beyond.

Our Homer logo carries Alaska's bear over "Alaska Territory · Est. 1959," the year Alaska became the forty-ninth state — the shared emblem of every Merlin Classics Alaska place. Printed in a distressed black-and-white that reads like an old outfitter's stamp, the bear is the Last Frontier in shorthand: rugged, wild, and at home in the cold. The bear is the through-line that ties Homer to every other Alaska town we make. What makes this one Homer is everything around it — the Spit, the halibut, and Kachemak Bay.

Why People Visit Homer

Homer offers Alaska at its most scenic and approachable — a working fishing port and arts town on one of the most beautiful bays in the state. Visitors come for the halibut charters, the Spit, and the wildlife and water excursions, and stay for the galleries, beaches, and unhurried end-of-the-road feel. From the harbor docks to the mountains across the bay, it rewards a slow few days. It is wild, creative, and welcoming in every season on Kachemak Bay.
