The tote is the Wailea piece that gets used daily: groceries, books, a towel for the beach, the farmers’ market on Saturday. It is flat to mail, so it is also the simplest Wailea gift to send to someone out of state. Ships free in the U.S.

Heavy 12 oz (407 g/m²) cotton canvas gives this tote its durability and clean, minimalist look. It measures 15" × 16" (one size) with 20" self-fabric handles that sit comfortably on the shoulder, a sewn-in label, and the retro logo printed on both sides. 100% cotton canvas, made for errands, books, or groceries.

The Hawaiians named this South Maui shore for Lea, the goddess of canoe-builders, who legend says flew over the coast as a forest bird and blessed its waters. It was a fishing ground for five hundred years along Piʻilani’s King’s Highway, cattle country after the Great Mahele of 1848, and a Marine amphibious training beach in the Second World War.

Matson bought the land in 1957 and the resort community was master-planned from 1971 around five crescent beaches, Mokapu, Ulua, Wailea, Polo and Keawakapu, at the dry, sunny foot of Haleakalā, looking across to Kahoʻolawe, Molokini and Lānaʻi, with humpbacks offshore each winter. The waters of Lea are the mark on this piece.

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

The shore itself was a fishing place first. What we now call Wailea Beach once carried the older name Kahamanini — “the place of the surgeonfish” — for the manini that schooled bright over its reef. Fishermen worked these waters with net, pole, and spear, and built simple shelters along the sand to camp between tides. The reef that draws snorkelers today is the same reef that fed families for centuries; the water that looks merely scenic now was, to the people who named it, a pantry, a calendar, and a livelihood all at once.

Our Wailea design wears the hibiscus, Hawaiʻi’s flower, beneath the words “Hawaiian Kingdom · Est. 1795” — the kingdom-era mark Merlin carries across every island town, printed black-and-white like an old luggage decal or a crate stamp. It is less a claim about Wailea’s founding than a nod to the islands it belongs to: a small, durable emblem of place, stamped on a tee the way a stevedore once stamped a shipping case bound out of the harbor — retro in tone, and meant to last.
