The Mystic tee, for the town that was the whaling capital of America. A classic unisex heavy cotton t-shirt with the Mystic vintage retro logo on the chest in white: the default Mystic shirt, and the one most people start with.

This is the everyday Mystic shirt: medium-weight cotton that holds up to real washing, a crewneck that fits everyone, and a logo that reads as a crest rather than a billboard. Buy it for yourself, buy a second for the person who keeps saying they want one, and it ships free in the U.S.

A classic-fit unisex tee in medium-weight heavy cotton jersey. Crewneck, tubular construction, and taped shoulders for durability, with a DTG-printed design. Solids are 100% cotton; select heather and antique shades may use cotton–poly blends.

Mystic was settled in 1654 on both banks of the Mystic River, split to this day between Groton and Stonington. Between the 1830s and 1860s its yards built more than six hundred vessels, and in 1841 they launched the whaleship Charles W. Morgan, now the last wooden whaleship in the world. The 1756 Captain Daniel Packer Inne still stands by the water.

The 1922 bascule bridge on Main Street still lifts for boat traffic, Mystic Seaport Museum, founded in 1929, is the largest maritime museum in America, and the village became famous far beyond New England when Mystic Pizza was filmed here in 1988. That working-river history is the mark on this piece.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

The village beneath the legend is older than the yards. Settled in 1654 along the banks of the Mystic River, Mystic has never been an incorporated town at all — it is a village split down the middle by its own river, the west bank in Groton, the east bank in Stonington, with the 1922 bascule drawbridge stitching the two halves together on Main Street. Captain Daniel Packer opened his tavern above the river in 1756, and it still serves dinner today. In the 19th century the Greenman brothers built their shipyard, their mill village, and their church at Greenmanville — the riverbank where the seaport museum complex, founded in 1929, now keeps the working preservation shipyard.

Our Mystic logo carries Connecticut's oyster shell over "Connecticut · Est. 1636," tying the village to the colonial founding of Connecticut — the shared emblem of every Merlin Classics Connecticut place. Printed black-and-white with the worn look of an old oyster-crate label, the shell reads as the shoreline in shorthand: tidal, maritime, salt-aired. What makes this one Mystic is the story behind it — the five yards, the six hundred ships, and the last wooden whaler in the world.
