The Lubbock cap, for the town that is the Hub City of the South Plains. An unstructured cotton dad cap with the Lubbock vintage retro logo embroidered on the front in white thread.

The cap is the easiest Lubbock piece to wear every day and the easiest to give: one size, breathable cotton, a curved visor and an antique-brass buckle. It softens with wear and stays on the hook by the door. Order one for the beach bag and one for the glovebox.

Unisex embroidered dad cap with an unstructured 6-panel, low-profile fit and a Permacurv visor. Made from breathable cotton with a self-fabric hideaway strap and antique-brass buckle, plus a matching undervisor and four-row visor stitching for durability. All colors are 100% cotton; the camo variation is 65% polyester / 35% cotton. Classic embroidered finish — durable and vintage-inspired. Because embroidery uses thread (not ink), slight differences from the digital product image are normal and part of the process. Full details explained in our Embroidery footer.

Two rival promoters’ towns, Old Lubbock and Monterey, agreed to merge on December 19, 1890, on the Llano Estacado at 3,256 feet, named for Colonel Thomas Saltus Lubbock. The Santa Fe arrived, the city incorporated on March 16, 1909, and in 1923 it won the contest to host Texas Technological College.

The Hub City sits at the heart of the world’s largest contiguous cotton-growing region, under a high-plains wind that powers the American Windmill Museum, and the Lubbock Lake Landmark records ten thousand years of people on the same ground. Two plains towns made one is the mark on this piece.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

Our Lubbock retro logo uses Texas’s longhorn and Lone Star motif, symbolizing independence, toughness, and pride. The longhorn reflects ranching grit and agricultural pride, while the star recalls Texas Republic heritage. Its black-and-white styling is retro, resembling rodeo posters, barn signage, and cotton labels. The "EST. 1845" date marks Texas statehood — admitted to the Union as the twenty-eighth state on December 29, 1845. The motif bridges Lubbock’s dual identity: frontier farming hub and suburban university city. On merchandise, it conveys authenticity and pride, retro vintage in tone. The longhorn and star emblem honors Lubbock’s layered identity, making it a vintage symbol of Texas heritage. Retro in style, it reflects toughness and tradition, perfectly suited for Lubbock.

Lubbock thrived as a cotton hub in the early twentieth century. Texas Tech University, founded in 1923, became a cultural and educational anchor. By the 1950s and 1960s, suburban neighborhoods and cultural life expanded, balancing ranching with education. Its timeline reflects adaptability: agricultural hub transforming into university town. Lubbock’s mid-century decades emphasized optimism, cultural pride, and suburban identity. The city thrived as both agricultural and cultural community, reflecting Texas’s broader story: ranching roots adapted into suburban and educational growth. Its story shows resilience, pride, and ambition across traditions and modern expansion.

Why People Visit Lubbock Texas

Lubbock is the heartland-pride heart of West Texas: the Hub City of the South Plains, the commercial heart of the world's largest contiguous cotton-growing region, a town founded in 1890 when two rivals chose to become one. It offers the world's largest windmill collection, the deep ranching archive of the National Ranching Heritage Center, the 10,000-year human record at the Lubbock Lake Landmark, the railroad-era Depot District, the canyon parks of Yellow House Canyon, and a West Texas music heritage that helped shape American rock and roll — all under the wide flat sky of the Llano Estacado. It feels spacious, sunny, and grounded, where cotton country, university life, and plains heritage sit side by side. Hub City. Cotton country. West Texas, wide open.
