Is mah jongg the new dinner party? One event founder calls it exactly that. Bars and clubs now pair tiles with cocktails, DJs and tables of strangers.
Three dragons, one large ice cube. This glass was made for Mahjong and Martinis, whether the night is at a hotel terrace or your own dining table, with the good olives out and somebody already asking whose turn it is.
The cocktail format has spread quickly. A Baton Rouge club held Mahjong and Martinis in August 2026 for $50 a seat. A San Francisco hotel runs a version with a themed drink on the terrace, and South Florida has a biweekly waterfront Monday game.
The big-city parties go further. Some San Francisco events report up to 30 tables and 200 guests, with DJs and custom drinks. It looks new, but it is an old idea: a game as an excuse to gather. Be warned, though. A second martini has never yet improved anyone's Charleston.
A clear, tempered 10 oz rocks glass that feels good in the hand and shows the tile art against your drink. Hand wash only, please, since dishwashers are hard on prints. Peel off the barcode sticker under the base before use. And as always, profits support hunger relief.
