Why is the One Bamboo a bird? Nobody documented the reason. Early tiles showed a string of coins, and carvers may have slowly turned it into a bird.
A little bird for a good cap. This washed cotton hat puts the One Bam right at the front, and any player who spots it will likely tell you which bird she thinks it is. That is half the fun.
Early sets had no bird, just a bent string of cash with a red knot. That makes sense, since the bamboo suit started as strings of coins. One collector's theory has the string read as a mayfly, then a crane, then a peacock and a sparrow.
Today the bird is usually a sparrow, and in Japan most often a peacock. Ours is the peacock on a stalk, and it sits under the name Sparrow Tile on purpose. The connection to the game's name is plausible but unproven. So choose your favorite story. The carver is not around to correct you.
All-cotton 8.5 oz twill, garment dyed in soft colors, with an unstructured crown and curved bill. A metal slider adjusts the back. Skip the washing machine: use cold water by hand, then leave it out to dry. Like everything in our shop, this one means profits support hunger relief.
