The Greenwich tank, for the town that gave American Impressionism its Connecticut light. Lightweight Airlume cotton jersey with the Greenwich vintage retro logo on the chest in black, for the hottest months of the year.

The tank is the summer Greenwich piece: light enough for the trail, the boat and the porch, cut in a retail unisex fit that runs true to size. Order it before the warm weather does the deciding for you.

Unisex jersey tank made from lightweight Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton with a retail fit. Side-seam construction and self-fabric binding help it hold shape, with a tear-away label, and it runs true to size for adults. Solid colors are 100% cotton; select heather/prism shades may include cotton–poly or cotton–poly–rayon blends.

Greenwich was bought from the Siwanoy in 1640 and named for the royal borough of London. On February 26, 1779, General Israel Putnam galloped down Put’s Hill to outrun British cavalry, a ride still shown on the town seal, and the railroad of 1848 began the town’s long run as the flagship of Connecticut’s Gold Coast.

From about 1890 to 1920 Twachtman, Weir, Hassam and Robinson painted the Mianus River and Cos Cob Harbor from the c.1730 Bush-Holley House, the town’s only National Historic Landmark and a cradle of American Impressionism. Greenwich Point’s 147-acre peninsula and four town beaches face the Sound. The mark on this piece is that light.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

Our Greenwich logo carries the same emblem every Merlin Classics Connecticut town wears — an oyster above "Connecticut, Est. 1636," the colony's founding year, rendered in hand-printed black and white with a worn, vintage feel. The oyster is the shoreline state's mark, the through-line that ties Greenwich to every other Connecticut town we make. What makes this one Greenwich is everything around it: the Impressionists' harbor light, the ride down Put's Hill, the Gold Coast shore. On a tee or a cap it reads less like a souvenir and more like a small piece of the Connecticut coast — Est. 1636, worn plain.

By the 1890s, painters were boarding the train to Cos Cob and lodging at the Bush-Holley House, a circa-1730 colonial saltbox above the harbor. There John Henry Twachtman taught what are believed to be among the first American Impressionist painting classes in the country, and artists including J. Alden Weir, Theodore Robinson, and Childe Hassam gathered to paint the marshes, the harbor, and the light. Their Cos Cob Art Colony, Connecticut's first, ran into the 1920s and helped shape American art; the house is now a National Historic Landmark cared for by the Greenwich Historical Society. In the twentieth century Greenwich became the flagship town of Connecticut's Gold Coast — wooded estates above the Sound, a celebrated avenue of shops, and an elegance that has always preferred restraint to display.
