The Fairfield fleece, for the town that rebuilt itself after the British burned it in 1779. An authentic Columbia MTR fleece, full-zip, with the Fairfield vintage retro logo embroidered on the chest in white thread.

This is the top of the Fairfield range: a real Columbia blank, embroidered to order, warm, light and fast-drying. It is the jacket for early mornings, the sideline and the drive home, and the Fairfield gift that gets opened and put on immediately. Made to order, so allow the embroidery time before the holidays.

Our premium embroidered fleece jacket starts with an authentic Columbia blank in soft, warm MTR fleece and adds our vintage-retro logo, cleanly embroidered on the chest to order. The warm, lightweight full-zip is cut from MTR-style filament fleece (~7.4 oz/yd²) in an athletic, easy-layering fit with a stand collar and clean lines; it insulates on cool days, dries fast, and moves comfortably for walks, errands, travel, or campfire nights. Care: machine wash cold (gentle), dry flat, no bleach, no iron on decoration, no dry clean. Embroidery uses thread rather than ink, so slight differences from the digital product image are normal — full details and care instructions are in the page footer Embroidery note. The Pequot War ended at the Great Swamp Fight here in 1637, and Roger Ludlow founded Fairfield two years later. On July 7, 1779, Tryon’s raid burned most of the original town; the 1755 Powell House survived, and the village rebuilt in the Federal style along the Old Post Road through the 1820s.

Greenfield Hill holds one of the largest concentrations of intact Federal and Colonial homes in New England, the 1874 Penfield Reef Light stands a mile and a half offshore, and Sherwood Island, Connecticut’s first state park, opened on this shore in 1914. Fairfield University arrived in 1942 and Sacred Heart in 1963. The mark on this piece is the Old Post Road town.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

What’s with the Onions? For half a century, Fairfield’s fame was an onion. The Southport Globe Onion, bred on the coastal hills above Southport Harbor, became one of the most celebrated vegetables in America — by the 1840s onions were the town’s great crop, schooners raced them under sail to the New York markets, and during the Civil War the Union bought them by the hundred-thousand-bushel lot; General Grant reputedly refused to march without them. Then in 1894 cutworms and fungus turned the fields black almost overnight, and the industry died where it stood. The onion money had already built the harbor village and its streetscapes — and every fall Fairfield still drops a giant onion at its festival in the crop’s honor.

Our Fairfield retro logo uses Connecticut's clam shell motif, the brand-wide shellfish emblem of every Merlin Classics CT shoreline town, symbolizing shoreline abundance and resilience. The clam represents cultural pride, while "1636" ties the design to the Connecticut Colony's founding era — Fairfield itself was settled three years later in 1639, but the colony-wide "1636" date is the brand-pattern anchor across our Connecticut towns. Black-and-white styling is retro, resembling oyster crate labels and seaside signage. The motif bridges Fairfield's identity: colonial shoreline town and modern suburban community. On merchandise, it conveys authenticity, heritage, and pride, retro in tone. The clam shell emblem honors Fairfield's layered identity, making it a vintage symbol of Connecticut pride, perfectly suited for Long Island Sound heritage.

Why People Visit Fairfield Connecticut

Fairfield offers a deep colonial history, a National Register town green, the Federal-era Burr Mansion and surrounding streetscape, the Greenfield Hill village preserved intact from before the Revolution, an offshore lighthouse, four miles of Sound beaches, and the original Boston Post Road running through the middle of it all. Visitors come for the museum and the green, the Federal architecture along Beach Road, the Greenfield Hill drive in apple season, the Pequot Library, Jennings Beach in summer, and the simple shoreline pleasures of a town that was founded by the lawyer who wrote America's first constitution and rebuilt itself after the British burned it down. It is layered, walkable, and very Connecticut.
