The Waimea heavy crewneck, for the town that is paniolo country. A classic 50/50 fleece sweatshirt with the Waimea vintage retro logo on the chest in white: the plain, durable one.

Choose this crewneck for durability and price: classic fit, ribbed collar and cuffs, a fleece that shrugs off years of washing. It is the Waimea sweatshirt to buy in twos, one for home and one for the person who grew up there, and it ships free in the U.S.

A classic-fit unisex crewneck in medium-heavy fleece, made for warmth and durability. Ribbed collar, cuffs & waistband, double-needle seams, and a tear-away label; DTG-printed design. Standard colors are 8.0 oz 50% cotton/50% polyester and Heather Sport colors are 60/40. White may appear off-white and the Orange hue may vary.

Vancouver gave Kamehameha I cattle in 1793 and the herds went wild on Mauna Kea; vaqueros arrived in the 1830s to teach the Hawaiians to ride and rope, and the paniolo tradition was born, older than the mainland cowboy. John Palmer Parker founded Parker Ranch in 1847, still one of the oldest and largest in the United States.

Waimea, also called Kamuela, sits in cool, misty pasture at 2,600 feet on the saddle between the Kohala Mountains and Mauna Kea, where nights drop into the fifties and fireplaces are common. The 1847 koa homestead Mana Hale still stands and Church Row lines the center of town. Cowboy Hawaiʻi is the mark on this piece.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

Waimea goes by two names. “Waimea” — “reddish water” — is the old Hawaiian name, but it is shared by towns on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu, so the post office here took a second one: Kamuela, the Hawaiian form of “Samuel,” after Samuel Parker, John Palmer Parker's prominent grandson. The sign on the post office still says Kamuela; the people who live there still say Waimea. Both names point to the same cool upland town and the same ranching family that shaped it. The town sits some 2,700 feet up, cool and often fog-wrapped — close enough to the Kohala-coast beaches to surprise first-time visitors with sweaters and woodsmoke.

At the center of it all is Parker Ranch. John Palmer Parker, who married into a Native Hawaiian aliʻi family, founded the ranch in 1847; it grew across the slopes of Mauna Kea and Kohala into one of the oldest and largest cattle ranches in the United States — well over a hundred thousand acres. For generations the paniolo of Parker Ranch worked those pastures on horseback, and the ranch became the economic and cultural heart of North Hawaiʻi, drawing visits even from the reigning monarchs of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

Why People Visit Waimea

Waimea offers the Hawaiʻi that isn't a beach — cool, green, and high, with a deep ranching culture and Native Hawaiian roots. Visitors come for the paniolo heritage, the upland air, the farmers' markets, and the rare feeling of a Hawaiian cowboy town under the slopes of a sacred mountain.
