The Plano fleece, for the town that was named for the flat black prairie it stands on. An authentic Columbia MTR fleece, full-zip, with the Plano vintage retro logo embroidered on the chest in white thread.

This is the top of the Plano range: a real Columbia blank, embroidered to order, warm, light and fast-drying. It is the jacket for early mornings, the sideline and the drive home, and the Plano gift that gets opened and put on immediately. Made to order, so allow the embroidery time before the holidays.

Trusted outdoor quality meets personalized design: an authentic Columbia fleece jacket blank in soft, warm MTR fleece, custom embroidered to order with our vintage-retro logo on the chest. The lightweight full-zip (~7.4 oz/yd² MTR-style filament fleece) has an athletic, easy-layering fit, a stand collar, and clean lines that pair with everything, and it delivers dependable insulation for cool days while drying fast and moving comfortably. Care: machine wash cold (gentle), dry flat, no bleach, no iron on decoration, no dry clean. Embroidery is thread, not ink, so slight differences from the digital product image are normal; see the page footer Embroidery note for full details and care. Peters’ Colony settlers arrived in 1845–46 and William Foreman’s mill became the nucleus; the post office of 1852 took the name Plano, Spanish for flat, for the Blackland Prairie farmland. The Houston & Texas Central Railway arrived in 1872 and the town incorporated on June 2, 1873.

The fire of 1881 destroyed all but one of the fifty-one downtown buildings and the town rebuilt in brick; the 1891 Farrell-Wilson farmhouse, with its jigsaw trim, windmill and barns, is now the Heritage Farmstead Museum, and the Shawnee cattle trail once threaded the farms. Plano’s farm-town roots are the mark on this piece.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

Then, in 1881, fire nearly ended it. A blaze tore through the wooden downtown and destroyed all fifty-one of its business structures — only one survived. Rather than fold, Plano rebuilt in brick, and that decision is why Historic Downtown Plano still stands today, its oldest brick buildings dating to the 1890s. The rebuilt main street, the 1884 Schimelpfenig dry-goods building among its survivors, is a record in masonry of a town that refused to disappear.

The prairie's grandest survivor sits a little west of downtown. In 1891 the Farrell family built a fourteen-room Victorian farmhouse — elaborate jigsaw trim, a windmill, barns, a blacksmith shop, a henhouse, and a country store — on a working ranch, the same year Plano organized its public school system. For decades the place was a sheep operation; 'Miss Ammie' Wilson, a champion sheep breeder, ran it into the 1970s and left it to the public rather than the developers. Today it survives as the Heritage Farmstead Museum, an accredited living-history site where the windmill still turns and the Blackland Prairie story is kept alive, room by restored room — a working farm preserved whole inside a modern metropolis.

Why People Visit Plano

Plano rewards visitors who want Texas history without the crowds of a tourist town — a genuine 1891 farmstead, a brick Main Street rebuilt after the great fire, an electric-railway museum, and nature preserves on the old Blackland Prairie. People come for the Heritage Farmstead and the downtown arts district, for the September balloons over the prairie, and for an easy, welcoming North-Texas day with real roots behind it.
