The Palm Springs cap, for the town that is the desert’s mid-century modern capital. An unstructured cotton dad cap with the Palm Springs vintage retro logo embroidered on the front in white thread.

The cap is the easiest Palm Springs piece to wear every day and the easiest to give: one size, breathable cotton, a curved visor and an antique-brass buckle. It softens with wear and stays on the hook by the door. Order one for the beach bag and one for the glovebox.

This unisex dad cap is made from breathable cotton in a low-profile, unstructured 6-panel shape with a Permacurv visor. A self-fabric hideaway strap with antique-brass buckle adjusts the fit, and a matching undervisor and four-row visor stitching add durability. The embroidered finish is classic and vintage-inspired. All colors 100% cotton; camo is 65% polyester / 35% cotton. Because embroidery uses thread (not ink), slight differences from the digital product image are normal and part of the process — see our Embroidery footer for full details.

The Agua Caliente Cahuilla built their villages around the hot mineral springs of Se-Khi for thousands of years; McCallum began the resort colony in 1885, the health-resort years followed, and 653 voters incorporated the city in 1938. Hollywood had already found it in the 1920s and 30s.

The 1940s to 60s left the densest concentration of mid-century modern architecture in the country, butterfly roofs, breeze blocks and kidney pools under about 350 days of sun, and the 1963 Aerial Tramway climbs Mount San Jacinto, which leaps nearly two miles straight off the desert floor. The palm oases of the Indian Canyons lie just south. The mid-century desert is the mark on this piece.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

The desert's mid-century modern capital — a Coachella Valley oasis where Hollywood built a town of butterfly roofs and the world's largest rotating tram climbs two miles into the mountains. Palm Springs sits in a bowl of sun at the foot of Mount San Jacinto, on the floor of the Coachella Valley. The Agua Caliente Cahuilla built their lives around its hot mineral springs and palm-canyon oases for thousands of years; by the 1950s it had become a sun-drenched modernist playground of clean lines and kidney-shaped pools. Three hundred and fifty days of sun, a mountain that leaps straight off the desert floor, and a whole town of desert-modern design — this page tells the story.

Palm Springs keeps two kinds of cool. There is the design — the butterfly roofs and glass walls of the mid-century town, celebrated every Modernism Week. And there is the literal kind: the rotating tram that lifts you nearly six thousand feet off the valley floor into the pines of Mount San Jacinto, where it can be forty degrees cooler than the desert below. Between them sits the oasis itself — the Cahuilla hot springs, the fan-palm canyons, and the long mountain wall that makes the whole valley feel like a room.

Why People Visit Palm Springs California

People come to Palm Springs for the sun, the mid-century modern design, and the rare pairing of desert and mountain — palm oases on the valley floor, snow-dusted pines a tram ride above. It is bright, stylish, and walkable: the desert's design capital at the foot of Mount San Jacinto.
