The East Lyme heavy crewneck, for the town that is two villages on Niantic Bay. A classic 50/50 fleece sweatshirt with the East Lyme vintage retro logo on the chest in white: the plain, durable one.

Choose this crewneck for durability and price: classic fit, ribbed collar and cuffs, a fleece that shrugs off years of washing. It is the East Lyme sweatshirt to buy in twos, one for home and one for the person who grew up there, and it ships free in the U.S.

A classic-fit unisex crewneck in medium-heavy fleece, made for warmth and durability. Ribbed collar, cuffs & waistband, double-needle seams, and a tear-away label; DTG-printed design. Standard colors are 8.0 oz 50% cotton/50% polyester and Heather Sport colors are 60/40. White may appear off-white and the Orange hue may vary.

East Lyme is two villages: coastal Niantic, named for the Nehantic people who fished the bay for the scallop on the town seal, and inland Flanders, named for the Belgian-style cottage cloth it spun along the old Post Road. Settled in the mid-1600s and incorporated in 1839, it keeps the c.1660 Thomas Lee House, one of the oldest wood-frame houses in Connecticut.

The railroad of 1851 began Niantic’s summer-resort era; Rocky Neck State Park’s stone-and-timber pavilion was built by the WPA and CCC in the 1930s, Nehantic State Forest was set aside in 1925, and the mile-long Niantic Bay Boardwalk opened in 2005. The mark on this piece is the scallop town.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

The shoreline changed in 1851, when the railroad reached the coast and turned the old fishing landing into something new: a summer place. Families from New York and Hartford came down for the season, building beach cottages at Crescent Beach, Black Point, and Giants Neck, and Niantic settled into the double life it still leads — a quiet town of about eighteen thousand most of the year that nearly doubles when the porches open in June and the bay fills with sailboats and sportfishing skiffs. The named beach colonies — Crescent Beach, Black Point, Giants Neck, Attawan, Saunder's Point — still keep that cottage-summer rhythm today, porches opening to the Sound.

The town wears its age quietly. The Thomas Lee House, built around 1660, is one of the oldest wood-frame houses still standing in Connecticut — a dark saltbox beside the 1734 Little Boston School on West Main Street. A few miles off, the Greek Revival Smith-Harris House of 1845 anchors Brookside Farm, and the gambrel-roofed Samuel Smith farmstead carries the eighteenth century forward. George Washington is said to have stopped at Calkins Tavern in 1776. These are the bones of a working New England town — lived in, added to, and kept, rather than set behind glass.

Why People Visit East Lyme

East Lyme rewards visitors who want the Connecticut shoreline at its most easygoing — a sandy state-park beach, a waterfront boardwalk, and a village built on the bay. People come for Rocky Neck and the Niantic Bay Boardwalk, for the colonial Thomas Lee House, and for a simple, scenic shoreline day where beach-cottage summers and quiet New England history sit a short walk apart.
