The East Lyme tank, for the town that is two villages on Niantic Bay. Lightweight Airlume cotton jersey with the East Lyme vintage retro logo on the chest in white, for the hottest months of the year.

The tank is the summer East Lyme piece: light enough for the trail, the boat and the porch, cut in a retail unisex fit that runs true to size. Order it before the warm weather does the deciding for you.

A retail-fit unisex tank in lightweight Airlume combed and ring-spun cotton. Side seams and self-fabric binding help it hold its shape, the label tears away, and it runs true to size for adults. Solids are 100% cotton; select heather and prism shades may include cotton–poly or cotton–poly–rayon blends.

East Lyme is two villages: coastal Niantic, named for the Nehantic people who fished the bay for the scallop on the town seal, and inland Flanders, named for the Belgian-style cottage cloth it spun along the old Post Road. Settled in the mid-1600s and incorporated in 1839, it keeps the c.1660 Thomas Lee House, one of the oldest wood-frame houses in Connecticut.

The railroad of 1851 began Niantic’s summer-resort era; Rocky Neck State Park’s stone-and-timber pavilion was built by the WPA and CCC in the 1930s, Nehantic State Forest was set aside in 1925, and the mile-long Niantic Bay Boardwalk opened in 2005. The mark on this piece is the scallop town.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

Two great green spaces fixed that summer character in place. Rocky Neck State Park spreads more than seven hundred acres along the Sound, with a wide sandy beach, a tidal salt marsh, and a landmark stone-and-timber pavilion built by WPA and CCC crews in the 1930s — one of the finest pieces of public architecture on the Connecticut shore. Inland, Nehantic State Forest, set aside in 1925, was the first state forest in New London County. And along the water in Niantic, the mile-long Niantic Bay Boardwalk, opened in 2005, traces the shore past the old railroad line, with the Sound on one side and the bay on the other.

The Nehantic were here first, with fishing and hunting grounds along the shore, and they allied with the colonists during the Pequot conflict of 1636. English families began settling in the 1640s as part of Lyme and New London; the area became the West Parish of Lyme in 1719, and in 1839 it broke away to incorporate as its own town — East Lyme, carved from parts of Lyme and Waterford. One local legend predates all of it: the Bride Brook marriage of 1646, said to have been performed across a frozen brook that marked a colonial boundary, so the ceremony could satisfy two jurisdictions at once.

Why People Visit East Lyme

East Lyme rewards visitors who want the Connecticut shoreline at its most easygoing — a sandy state-park beach, a waterfront boardwalk, and a village built on the bay. People come for Rocky Neck and the Niantic Bay Boardwalk, for the colonial Thomas Lee House, and for a simple, scenic shoreline day where beach-cottage summers and quiet New England history sit a short walk apart.
