The East Haven fleece, for the town that built Connecticut’s first ironworks. An authentic Columbia MTR fleece, full-zip, with the East Haven vintage retro logo embroidered on the chest in white thread.

This is the top of the East Haven range: a real Columbia blank, embroidered to order, warm, light and fast-drying. It is the jacket for early mornings, the sideline and the drive home, and the East Haven gift that gets opened and put on immediately. Made to order, so allow the embroidery time before the holidays.

Our premium embroidered fleece jacket starts with an authentic Columbia blank in soft, warm MTR fleece and adds our vintage-retro logo, cleanly embroidered on the chest to order. The warm, lightweight full-zip is cut from MTR-style filament fleece (~7.4 oz/yd²) in an athletic, easy-layering fit with a stand collar and clean lines; it insulates on cool days, dries fast, and moves comfortably for walks, errands, travel, or campfire nights. Care: machine wash cold (gentle), dry flat, no bleach, no iron on decoration, no dry clean. Embroidery uses thread rather than ink, so slight differences from the digital product image are normal — full details and care instructions are in the page footer Embroidery note. Settled as East Farms around 1638 to 1644, East Haven built Connecticut’s first iron furnace at Lake Saltonstall in 1655 and was the Iron Works Village long before it took its name in 1707. The Old Stone Church of 1772–74, built by George Lancraft, is one of the oldest stone churches in New England and still faces the Green.

Tryon’s raid of July 5, 1779, took Black Rock Fort and cost the town sixteen men; Lafayette camped on the Green that year and returned in 1824. East Haven became its own town in May 1785, and the Shore Line Trolley Museum still runs the oldest continuously operating suburban trolley line in the country. The mark on this piece is the iron and the stone.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

What's with Iron Works Village? Before it was East Haven, it was Iron Works Village — and that name is the key to the whole town. In 1655, on the shore of a pond fed by Lake Saltonstall, colonists fired up Connecticut's very first iron works, smelting bog iron just a few years after the New Haven Colony took root. It was only the third ironworks in all of New England. The furnace gave the settlement its first identity and its first industry, and though the fires went cold long ago, the village it built grew into the shoreline town that still sits at the east edge of New Haven Harbor.

The settlement came first, in 1638. When the New Haven Colony bought up the land along the Sound, the eastern shore of the harbor was set aside as farmland and called, plainly, East Farms — a parish of New Haven worked by colonists who built wharves, planted fields, and fished the tidal marshes. For its first century the place answered to New Haven in everything: its church, its government, its land. But the iron furnace, the salt works, and the steady growth of the village gave East Farms an identity of its own, and a long, patient campaign to become a town in its own right.

Why People Visit East Haven

Visitors come to East Haven for an unhurried slice of the Connecticut shore: a ride on a hundred-year-old trolley, a stroll past one of New England's oldest stone churches, and an afternoon on a quiet Sound-side beach. Salt marshes and shoreline trails sit a few minutes from the Town Green, and New Haven's museums and harbor are right next door. Equal parts colonial heritage and easy coastal living, East Haven rewards anyone drawn to the working shoreline of Long Island Sound.
