The East Haven premium crewneck, for the town that built Connecticut’s first ironworks. A 9.9 oz cotton-rich sweatshirt with a smooth face and the East Haven vintage retro logo on the chest in white.

This is the softer, heavier of our two East Haven crewnecks, the one that becomes the three-days-a-week sweatshirt from October on. Smooth face, rich print, no scratchy tag. If you want the sweatshirt that feels like a favorite on day one, this is it; order now for cold weather and holiday giving.

This unisex soft cotton sweatshirt is cut true to size from a medium-heavy 9.9 oz fabric — 80% cotton, 20% polyester — that feels substantial without weighing you down. Our retro artwork prints in rich detail on the smooth cotton-rich surface; ribbed-knit cuffs and collar, reinforced side seams, and twill neck tape keep everything crisp wash after wash; and the tear-away label means no scratchy tag. Machine washable, ethically printed on demand, and made to become a favorite.

Settled as East Farms around 1638 to 1644, East Haven built Connecticut’s first iron furnace at Lake Saltonstall in 1655 and was the Iron Works Village long before it took its name in 1707. The Old Stone Church of 1772–74, built by George Lancraft, is one of the oldest stone churches in New England and still faces the Green.

Tryon’s raid of July 5, 1779, took Black Rock Fort and cost the town sixteen men; Lafayette camped on the Green that year and returned in 1824. East Haven became its own town in May 1785, and the Shore Line Trolley Museum still runs the oldest continuously operating suburban trolley line in the country. The mark on this piece is the iron and the stone.

Product FAQs

How does your sizing work?

Every item is made to order, so please check the size chart on this page before you buy. Women's fitted tees run small; size up for a looser fit. Caps are one size with an adjustable strap.

How are items made and when will they arrive?

We make each item to order using premium blanks, embroidery and soft-hand prints. Production takes 2-5 business days (weekends and holidays excluded), then 4-10 days in transit via USPS, UPS or FedEx to U.S. addresses; most orders arrive within 6-15 business days. You'll get a tracking link the moment it ships. Any current shipping offer is shown in the bar at the top of every page and applies automatically at checkout, no code needed.

How do I send a gift?

Enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address at checkout. Nothing ships with a price; the package includes a plain packing slip. Tracking goes to your email, not theirs. For birthdays and holidays, order two weeks ahead to be safe.

What's the return policy?

Made-to-order items can't be returned or exchanged for size or color, so please use the size chart and photos before ordering. If anything arrives defective, misprinted or damaged, send a photo and your order number within 30 days and we'll replace it or refund you.

How do I care for my item?

Apparel: wash cold, inside out, with like colors; no bleach; tumble dry low or hang dry. Embroidered pieces: iron inside out to protect the stitching. Caps: spot clean. Printed glasses and water bottles: hand wash only, no dishwasher, so the artwork lasts. Mugs and engraved glasses are dishwasher safe. Any item-specific care notes are in the description above.

Who makes this?

Merlin Classics is a small Connecticut brand making original retro designs for the towns people love. Every piece is printed, embroidered or engraved to order in the USA, and the business supports hunger relief in the communities our collections celebrate.

So East Haven gathers colonial iron, a fieldstone church, and the country's oldest trolley line onto a narrow shore of Long Island Sound. Our East Haven designs gather that into wearable form. Wear the history. East Haven, Connecticut — where colonial iron, a stone church, and the country's oldest trolley line meet the Sound.

That trolley line is East Haven's quiet claim to fame. Today the Shore Line Trolley Museum keeps the Branford Electric Railway running — the oldest continuously operating suburban trolley line in the United States — carrying riders on century-old streetcars along the same shoreline route, past Farm River and its tidal marshes. The town itself has long since become a New Haven-area shoreline suburb, with its beaches on Long Island Sound, its greens and ball fields, and the easy rhythm of a coastal town. But the trolley still clangs along the marsh, a living thread back to the iron-works village that started it all.

Why People Visit East Haven

Visitors come to East Haven for an unhurried slice of the Connecticut shore: a ride on a hundred-year-old trolley, a stroll past one of New England's oldest stone churches, and an afternoon on a quiet Sound-side beach. Salt marshes and shoreline trails sit a few minutes from the Town Green, and New Haven's museums and harbor are right next door. Equal parts colonial heritage and easy coastal living, East Haven rewards anyone drawn to the working shoreline of Long Island Sound.
