This is our retro Norwalk, Connecticut logo, printed in weathered charcoal on a retro vintage washed cap — an unstructured cotton dad hat that looks broken in from the day it arrives. The charcoal carries a faint wavering tone and a light speckle, so the print reads like it has been in the sun as long as the cap has.

The cap is 8.5 oz 100% cotton twill, enzyme washed and heavily brushed for a soft hand, with an unstructured six-panel crown, a mid-profile fit and a curved bill. A self-fabric strapback with a metal slider adjusts the fit and tucks away, and a self-fabric sweatband lines the inside. It is garment dyed with OEKO-TEX certified low-impact dyes, so every cap's color varies slightly — washed here means faded color and a weathered print, not distressed or frayed.

  • 100% cotton twill, 8.5 oz, enzyme washed and brushed
  • Unstructured six-panel crown, mid profile, curved bill
  • Self-fabric strapback with metal slider
  • One size fits most — hat sizes 6¾ to 7⅝
  • Logo printed in charcoal with a weathered tone

One size fits most, so it is an easy gift to get right: no size to guess, only the town. Each cap is made to order. Hand wash cold and air dry, and keep it out of the dryer. As with everything we make, profits support hunger relief.

The nineteenth century made Norwalk an industrial force twice over. In 1860, at the corner of North Main and Union Streets in South Norwalk, the firm of Crofut & Knapp produced the first American-made derby hat — and Norwalk grew into one of the nation’s great hat-making centers, more than thirty factories at the peak, crowning America in derbies and straw boaters. The same era’s fortunes built landmarks: LeGrand Lockwood, a Wall Street banker, raised the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion in 1864–68 — one of the earliest and finest Second Empire country houses in America, a National Historic Landmark that predates the Vanderbilt palaces by a generation.

The colonial town lived on farming, shipbuilding, coastal trade — and always the oyster beds. On July 11, 1779, four days after burning Fairfield, British forces under General William Tryon landed at Calf Pasture and burned Norwalk — houses, mills, churches, and barns were destroyed in a single day of fighting that swept up Grumman’s Hill, and the town rebuilt itself through the Federal era around its green, which still anchors the historic district today.

Why People Visit Norwalk Connecticut

Norwalk offers an authentic working harbor, one of America's earliest Gilded Age mansions, a major aquarium, an annual oyster festival, an offshore island ferry to an 1868 lighthouse, and a nineteenth-century industrial waterfront reborn as a historic district. Visitors come for the SoNo galleries and restaurants, the Maritime Aquarium with its harbor seals and Sound-habitat exhibits, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion and its preserved Second Empire interiors, the September Oyster Festival, the Sheffield Island ferry, and the simple shoreline pleasures of Calf Pasture Beach. It is a Connecticut shoreline city built on the harbor, the hat, and the oyster, with all three still visible if you know where to look.
