This is our retro Joshua Tree, California logo, printed in weathered charcoal on a retro vintage washed cap — an unstructured cotton dad hat that looks broken in from the day it arrives. The charcoal carries a faint wavering tone and a light speckle, so the print reads like it has been in the sun as long as the cap has.

The cap is 8.5 oz 100% cotton twill, enzyme washed and heavily brushed for a soft hand, with an unstructured six-panel crown, a mid-profile fit and a curved bill. A self-fabric strapback with a metal slider adjusts the fit and tucks away, and a self-fabric sweatband lines the inside. It is garment dyed with OEKO-TEX certified low-impact dyes, so every cap's color varies slightly — washed here means faded color and a weathered print, not distressed or frayed.

The town’s namesake is Yucca brevifolia, a tree-sized member of the agave family that grows only in the Mojave and crowds the horizon here with its shaggy, upraised arms. The name comes from Mormon pioneers who crossed the desert in the mid-1800s: the tree’s outstretched branches reminded them of the biblical Joshua raising his arms to the sky, and the name stuck. Each one is slow — decades to mature — and depends entirely on a single pollinator, the yucca moth, which carries its pollen from bloom to bloom and lays its eggs in the flowers, so neither the tree nor the moth can live without the other. Strange, spiky, and unmistakable, the Joshua tree is the silhouette the whole town is named for.

Today Joshua Tree is a high-desert town with a double life: a national-park gateway of campgrounds and trailheads, and a bohemian outpost of artists, musicians, roadside galleries, and desert-modern cabins. Pioneertown’s 1946 movie-set saloons sit up the road; Noah Purifoy’s junk-sculpture museum sprawls across the open desert. It is rugged, weird, and wide open — a place people come to climb the rocks, watch the stars, and feel the desert get under their skin.

Why People Visit Joshua Tree

People come for the strangeness: trees out of a storybook, boulders made for scrambling, and a night sky so dark the Milky Way throws shadows. Pair the park with the town’s desert-arts scene and you have a high-desert getaway unlike anywhere else in California.
