This is our retro Bethel, Alaska logo, printed in weathered charcoal on a retro vintage washed cap — an unstructured cotton dad hat that looks broken in from the day it arrives. The charcoal carries a faint wavering tone and a light speckle, so the print reads like it has been in the sun as long as the cap has.

The cap is 8.5 oz 100% cotton twill, enzyme washed and heavily brushed for a soft hand, with an unstructured six-panel crown, a mid-profile fit and a curved bill. A self-fabric strapback with a metal slider adjusts the fit and tucks away, and a self-fabric sweatband lines the inside. It is garment dyed with OEKO-TEX certified low-impact dyes, so every cap's color varies slightly — washed here means faded color and a weathered print, not distressed or frayed.

  • 100% cotton twill, 8.5 oz, enzyme washed and brushed
  • Unstructured six-panel crown, mid profile, curved bill
  • Self-fabric strapback with metal slider
  • One size fits most — hat sizes 6¾ to 7⅝
  • Logo printed in charcoal with a weathered tone
  • Hand wash cold, air dry; made to order

One size fits most, so it is an easy gift to get right: no size to guess, only the town. Each cap is made to order. Hand wash cold and air dry, and keep it out of the dryer. As with everything we make, profits support hunger relief.

So Bethel gathers a great northern river, the largest delta in the country, a Yup'ik homeland, and a pair of genuine firsts into one fly-in town near the edge of the Bering Sea. Our Bethel designs gather that into wearable form. Wear the history. Bethel, Alaska — on the Kuskokwim, at the heart of the delta, where the river is the road.

What's with "where the river is the road"? In Bethel there are no highways in or out — the town sits off the road system, reached only by air and by the Kuskokwim River itself. For much of the year the river is the road: in summer, skiffs and barges carry people and freight up and down the water to some fifty villages; in deep winter the Kuskokwim freezes hard enough to drive on, and the state marks an official ice road across it. The seasons that matter most here are breakup, when the ice goes out in a roar each spring, and freeze-up, when travel pauses until the river sets. Watch the Kuskokwim and you are watching the calendar of the whole delta.

Why People Visit Bethel

People come to Bethel for the real thing: a remote, fly-in delta town that is the heart of Yup'ik western Alaska, where the Kuskokwim is the main road and the seasons set the pace. It rewards travelers who want the far north on its own terms — river, tundra, the long northern light, and a community that has lived well here for generations.
