The few pioneer families living nearby hauled the cargo off the beach and put the nuts in the ground, hoping for a crop. Coconuts are built for this: they float, drift for months, and sprout where they land. The palms grew, and twenty years later the whole barrier island was lined with them.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eTowns usually take their names from a founder or a landmark.
