The name stuck, even after most sets added a border.

Every family has its own funny words, and this one has soap. Put the dragons on the new baby, then watch the grandmother explain the nickname to anyone who will listen. It is a sweet, slightly silly gift for a player's family.

White dragons were originally plain blank tiles. American players looked at one and saw a bar of soap, and no one has pinned down the first person to say so. The Chinese name, meanwhile, simply means white board.

Plastic sets changed the picture. Their backs could be mistaken for a blank face, so makers added a black rectangular border. The nickname outlived the look. Today most white dragons have a frame, and players still call them soap. It is a lovely lesson for a child: a good name can last longer than the thing itself.

Soft combed ring-spun cotton in solid colors, with ribbed binding and snaps that make changes simple, sized newborn to 24 months.
